As the final part of our Knives Out challenge, Chef Teekeh prepared a four-course lunch for our lucky student voter, Izaac! For the first course, he made a strawberry vinaigrette salad. The appetizer was Mongolian Meatballs (stuffed with Boursin cheese). The main entrée was stuffed airline chicken breast (stuffed with spinach, roasted red peppers, and onions), clouded mashed potatoes, asparagus, and blistered tomatoes, in a white wine cream sauce. The meal was wrapped up with beautiful fresh berries and chocolate crème brûlée. Izaac and his seven friends had a great time and loved the food! Thanks again to everyone who voted, and congratulations once again to Chef Teekeh for winning our 2025 Knives Out competition!
Student Appreciation Week rolls on with the Cardy Carnival food theme! That means a build-your-own hot dog bar, fresh squeezed lemonade, fried oreos and popcorn! While it may not be the healthiest meal, it’s definitely delicious! And it will hopefully remind you of those warm summer days spent at your local fair with friends and family. ☀️🎡
This week’s Team Member Tuesday spotlight is on Maisie Hall, one of the talented bakers at The Nest. She’s been here for about 4 months, and she’s helped to create some of the wonderful desserts you’ve likely tried for lunch. When she isn’t making incredible desserts, she’s either going hiking or painting different nature scenes. Her favorite painting that she’s made depicted a vibrant sunset, and she’s currently working on a painting with different kinds of mushrooms. Her favorite dessert is yellow cake, so be sure to grab some when it’s available for lunch!
Today was our Knives Out finale! Chef Teekeh and Executive Chef Gery competed to see who could make the best chicken wings and sauce. Hopefully you got to try them for lunch!
Teekeh made his Winning Wings with Teekeh's Asian Flare Sauce and Parmesan Garlic Sauce. Gery made his Smoked Honey Lemon Pepper Wings with Cilantro Avocado Sauce.

The winner from this round will be announced tomorrow. On Tuesday, they’ll choose a signature dish that Executive Chef Gery and the winner will have to make for the final battle showdown on Thursday the 17th. Your votes will determine who becomes the Champion of Knives Out 3.0!
As the winner of last year's Knives Out competition, Ms. Peggy has a golden vote this year, and her pick will get a 25% boost in voting for our winner. Can you identify what food you’re eating when you’re blindfolded and your ears are covered? These Otterbein Dining team members were hoping that they could! Why? Because our cooking competition, Knives Out, is returning! We have four slots available for chefs to compete next week. But we had a lot more interested candidates. So we did a blind palate challenge to determine who would move on to the cooking phase of the competition! There’s more info in our story. You all made history by selecting flavors that will represent the great Cardy name going forward. Peggy’s chicken sandwich and Gery’s cilantro sauce will henceforth be known as the Cardy Sandwich and Cardy Sauce. Congrats to them and thank you again to our guests for participating!

On Thursday, Executive Chef Gery Legra taught a room of eager participants how to do just that! He helped show them how to build a delicious display of meats, cheeses and more to admire and enjoy. This week’s employee spotlight is on Chris Gall, the newest barista at The Bean. He’s been with us for just two months, but he’s working hard to make our students happy! If you’ve visited The Bean recently, you’ve probably had a chance to talk with Chris, since he likes to get to know each of the guests coming through. When Chris isn’t making delicious drinks, he’s either doing some graphic design or making some furniture. He says he recently found a huge stone that he’s trying to turn into a table! His favorite drink is the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso, so come by and try one from Chris today!

One of the best things that we can do at Otterbein Dining is provide for the community. When third year Otterbein student Bryan Flannery asked if we would be willing to help feed unhoused folks in Columbus, saying yes was a no brainer. These incredibly thoughtful @otterbeinu students powered through the rain on a Saturday morning to help out those who are less fortunate. We were honored to partner with them by joining and supporting this noble cause.

In an effort to increase sustainability on campus, we’ve added some incentives at the Bean and The Point for students who use their reusable mugs. In addition to receiving a 15-cent discount on your favorite specialty drinks, you can also receive a free specialty drink after seven purchases! That’s 30% faster than the standard ten purchases. New reward cards are available at both locations, and mugs are available at The Bean. Help us do what we can to look out for the Planet and Go Green!

There’s a slightly longer wait time due to the customization for each one, but we think it’s worth it. 🍕

Gery had a great time teaching guests at the Point how to make guacamole and pico de gallo yesterday! Hopefully everyone who stopped by enjoyed the free pico and guac. Fun day on campus today! We did a commuter focus group in the commuter lounge to get some feedback about the dining program, and what commuters would like to see in the renovated dining space. We supplied the free chicken tenders, lemonade and carabiners! We also had a beach/boardwalk theme in the Nest today, complete with corn dogs, funnel cake fries and lemonade. Winston Churchill once said, “we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” And the @rmhcofcentraloh gives so much to families who need to be closer to their loved ones at @nationwidekids. That’s what made partnering with them, cooking breakfast and lunch for the families and serving them, an absolute no brainer! We care about our community, both on a company level and on a local level, and it’s our honor and privilege to help provide a service for those who would stand to benefit from it the most. We were excited to participate in another Experience Day today! It’s fun getting to speak with incoming students and their parents about what the dining services are like on campus. So many departments work together to make it happen and we’re grateful to be included amongst them! #ClassOf2028
The renovation event in the Nest today was so much fun! We hope you were able to join us, sample some delicious food and check out the artist renderings for what’s to come in the Nest! Those foods were simply a sneak peak at the possibilities that will be available once the new station equipment is installed. We hope that you enjoyed everything! (If you tried the PB&J smoothie, we already know that you did 😏)
Want to try some of the foods that we’ll be capable of making with the new equipment next year? Stop by the Nest for lunch tomorrow! We’ll have three different tasting stations where you can try the foods and give us feedback! There will also be a sneak peak of some of the furniture options as well. What Are Saturdays For Part 2: Sometimes they’re for employee appreciation! We wouldn’t be able to do any of the things that we do without our tremendously talented staff. And we never want to take that for granted. It’s imperative that they know how thankful we are for them! What better way to do that than with snacks, games, prizes, an ice cream sundae bar and a cash cube? Thank you guys for all that you do!
What Are Saturdays For Part 1: Sometimes, they’re for high end catering events! For example, the 2024 WesterBall! A community arts gala and fundraiser that’s hosted by the Westerville Arts Council. We’re always honored to be involved in this incredible event. The 2024 fundraiser was no exception.
Theme Week ended with a fun one! Gamer Thursday was a great way to wrap up the week. Displacer Beast Burgers with Super Mario Mushrooms, video game theme songs and a collab with @otterbeinesports for the Super Smash Bros. Tourney! (Or hang out might be more accurate haha.) For Tuesday‘s Theme, we celebrated the biggest star in the music industry, if not the biggest celebrity in the world today, Taylor Swift! We made friendship bracelets, listened to lots and lots of her music and became Swifties! Even if only for today for some of us haha. We’re lucky to have Parkhurst Dietitian Alicia Koloski (@parkhurstwoyw) on campus today! To celebrate Heart Health Month, Alicia is sampling three different types of hummus! Hummus is a great source for heart healthy fats. Plus, chickpeas have been shown to protect against heart disease.
